GE has recalled more than a million dishwashers due to fire hazard.
The voluntary recall includes GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint dishwashers. Seven reports of fires, three of which causing extensive property damage have been reported without injury. The heating elements on the affected products can fail and set fire.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission requests that people stop using the dishwashers immediately. Consumers can find their model and serial numbers inside the front left side of the dishwasher tub. If model is one of the recalled, disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker. GE will provide free repairs or rebates towards new models.
